Pilates offers a wide variety of skill levels and movement that may help in the rehabilitation process when recovering from an injury. By strengthening the deep structures of the body using light resistance, and then progressing to more complex movements, you can begin to identify muscle imbalances and learn to correct these movements.
Pilates has the ability to make these corrections because it focuses on postural alignment and muscle activation throughout different movements. Flexibility, and specifically moving muscles through their full range of motion, also aids in alleviating imbalances.
Core strength is key for injury prevention and rehabilitation, as the core connects the upper and lower body. Pilates places a large focus on stabilizing muscles deep in the core while incorporating proper breathing techniques to enhance this part of the body, forming a strong foundation in the core to carry out a variety of activities.
