Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center offers a range of Parkinson’s Programming to adults with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers. The medical fitness programs are designed for adults with Parkinson’s disease who wish to participate in low to moderate-intensity exercise. The support group welcomes both patients and caregivers. All classes, except the Support Group, require a completed physician approval form prior to participation.
For the following programs, registration is required, and members are encouraged to bring a friend or family member.
Rock Steady Boxing
We are fighting back against Parkinson’s! Parkinson’s causes a loss in many of the same areas that boxers condition to improve. Medical research shows that focused, intense exercise can reduce, reverse and delay Parkinson’s symptoms.
Flexibility Fitness
Focus on moving safely while seated or standing to utilize a variety of equipment such as light weights and bands to increase strength and range of motion.
Pedal For Parkinson’s
Stationary bicycle pedaling therapy at a high cadence. Our program combines rhythmic pedaling with support to help improve motor function.
Strength & Balance
Strengthen your way to a more balanced body! Utilizing a variety of equipment such as light weights and bands will help increase strength and range of motion, as well as improve coordination and posture.
Stride & Strength
A circuit-based training program designed to improve gait and muscular strength. Develop functional fitness through the use of free weights and bodyweight exercises.
Yoga For Parkinson’s
Practice gentle movements accompanied by proper breathing to achieve increased mobility, flexibility, strength and well-being.
Moves in Motion
Explore movement and music in ways that are fun, stimulating, and creative.
Seated Cardio
Riding Recumbent Bikes and NuSteps at a high cadence. Our program combines rhythmic pedaling with support to help improve motor function.
Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR! Moves)
PWR! Moves are the core of our PD-specific functional exercise and physical therapy programs. The Basic 4 PWR! Moves are designed to each target a skill known to deteriorate in people with Parkinson disease, which often lead to loss of mobility and function. The PWR! Moves can be practiced in multiple positions, made progressively more physically and cognitively challenging, and be used differently to target each person’s unique symptoms individually.
Pedal, Strength and Stretch
Stationary bicycle pedaling utilizing various speed and resistance levels for approximately 30 minutes. Followed by strength exercises utilizing weights and resistance bands for approximately 20 minutes. Designed to improve cardio function, strength, mobility, stability and balance. Class ends with a 10 min stretch flow.
Sit and Dance
Discover enjoyable, engaging and imaginative ways to experience movement and music while seated.
