Member’s Commitment to Lifelong Fitness

After Several Injuries, Member Joins Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center for a Pain-free, Healthier Lifestyle.

It was her doctor’s orders. After two years of physical therapy, Sally C. was told she would need to continue to exercise for the rest of her life. Sally was recovering from a compound fracture in her leg and now continues to exercise 26 years later.

Exercise helped Sally recover from a broken leg, a broken shoulder and two hip replacements. She was determined to continue to exercise to remain pain-free after her injuries and surgeries.

“I longed to live without pain; continuing to exercise eliminated the pain. After an additional three months I am still pain-free,” says Sally.

Now her fitness journey has expanded to watching her weight and enjoying the friendship of other members. Sally joined “Lose to Win” at Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center in 2014 to lose enough weight to get into her wedding dress for our 50^th wedding anniversary. Sally attended the weekly nutrition classes, and as a result, changed the way she and her husband ate their meals. Her husband began losing weight without trying because of the changes. He was then motivated to continue to lose weight and joined Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center. Sally’s husband has kept off 50 pounds over the last ten years and goes to the fitness center three times a week for classes while walking outdoors the other four days of the week.

“I succeeded and have successfully kept off most of the weight. Being mostly pain-free, an appropriate weight and having regular social contacts make me feel healthy both physically and mentally. Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center has wonderful classes, helpful, supportive instructors, friendly members, and nice staff. We both love Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center and are grateful for all that it has given us! Thank you! Thank you!”
